For the past year, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting Tapestry360’s free, community Zumba class on Saturday mornings. This program means a lot to us and the community that it serves and we highly encourage you to learn more about the incredible work of this organization.
Who is Tapestry360?
Tapestry 360 Health (T360H) is a federally qualified health center (FQHC) with 15 clinic locations serving Chicago’s North and Far North Sides. Each year, T360H provides culturally affirming, patient-centered, and fully integrated primary and behavioral healthcare to more than 28,000 adults and children. Care is delivered across community sites, school-based clinics, and in partnership with organizations such as Trilogy and Thresholds. Our comprehensive services span adult and family care, preventive screenings, chronic disease management, school and sports physicals, reproductive health, behavioral and mental health care, group wellness classes, health education, integrative medicine, immunizations, vision screenings, LGBTQ+ affirming services, and assistance with medical insurance applications and renewals, among others. At Tapestry 360 Health, we take a truly holistic, 360-degree approach to care—offering wraparound services designed to meet patients wherever they are and support their whole health journey. At Tapestry 360 Health, everyone is welcome—regardless of insurance status. For those who do not have or qualify for medical coverage, we offer an income-based sliding fee scale program to ensure cost is never a barrier to care.
How did the weekly Zumba classes begin, and what impact has this had?
In January 2019, Tapestry 360 Health launched free Zumba classes in Rogers Park to promote equitable access to both healthcare and physical activity programs. What began as a single weekly class led by Zumba Instructor Marcie has expanded to multiple weekly sessions, including a third class in Albany Park, thanks to growing community demand. In FY25, 215 unique individuals participated in T360H’s Zumba program.
Beyond physical activity, the classes foster belonging and support. Participant leaders often take the initiative to welcome newcomers, and T360H hosts potluck gatherings two to three times a year to encourage community building and resource sharing among attendees.
Annual participant surveys show meaningful outcomes: improved mental health (including reduced anxiety, depression, and stress), better sleep, and greater confidence in managing overall wellness. One participant shared: “When you move to a new city, especially in a different country, maintaining good mental health is very important. Zumba has helped me manage anxiety and feel more confident in my new environment. Building a sense of safety and connection with others through activities like this has been incredibly helpful.”
