We’re entering a busy month over here at MoM and while the speed of time can feel overwhelming, we’re always up for the challenge. The constant bustle of our building gives us energy, inspiration, and an honest hope for the future. There are so many people in our community doing amazing work and that’s what keeps us going; our clients are the sun we turn our petals to.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, our calendar is filling up and we’re excited to continue working with new faces. Flow Collective Chicago

Who are you and what do you do?

We are a community of flow artists who are passionate about expanding our art and sharing it with others! We host monthly flow jams where our community gathers to share their love for flow arts as well as monthly workshops where individuals from our community can teach their flow prop concepts and skills! Example: Intro to Poi, Double Hoop Choreo, Lyra Shapes and Transitions. Flow arts is for everybody and we’re grateful to continue expanding the joy of this art form to people of all experience levels and abilities!

How did your group begin and what has it brought to your community?

Flow Collective Chicago started in the summer of 2024 as a casual outdoor gathering at Montrose Harbor! We continued to host weekly flow jams, encouraging people to bring their flow props and to try new methods of flow! As Chicago winter settled in, we moved indoors and introduced monthly workshops to keep our community engaged throughout the toughest season! Along with our monthly jams and workshops, we’ve connected and continue to collaborate with local organizations in Chicago to merge the world of flow, music and art.

What has it meant to hold your programming at Movement on Montrose?

We are so grateful for our consistent programming at Movement on Montrose! With affordable rentals, we’ve been able to host multiple gatherings and workshops per month while keeping admission costs low for our community! The Team at MOM is wonderful and the facility has allowed us to really tap into amazing activations like projections, aerial rigging, live music and vendors!

Ghost Melon Artists Collective

We’re excited to announce our next art exhibition featuring artists from Ghost Melon Artists Collective.

“We are a Chicago-based, non-competitive, community-focused artist collective that seeks to uplift low-income, historically marginalized artists (including but not limited to: Transgender/Gender-nonconforming people/LGBTQ+ people, Black/Indigenous/People of Color (BIPOC), disabled people, fat people, undocumented people).”

Their exhibition will be on view from May 9th through June 26th with an opening reception on Friday, May 15th from 6-8pm.

May 3rd: Meditation Workshop from 5-7pm | This is the final of four Sunday sessions led by Tom Zelle. All experience levels are welcome to join. To register and learn more, please email Tom directly. Next session this fall.

May 9th: Re-Mothering Yourself Workshop from 9:30-11:30am | Join Brianna Robles, LCPC for a gentle, trauma-informed workshop for women and gender-diverse individuals navigating complex relationships with their mothers. Tickets available here.

May 12th: Leaders of Color Collective from 9-11:30am | Join LoCC for their conversation with Aimée Eubanks Davis, philanthropic leader and founder and CEO of Braven. She’ll be sharing insights into what it takes to turn $5,000 checks into $500,000 donations, as well as how to utilize your networks and your governing board to connect to more resources and supporters. Free to attend, registration required.

May 15th: Opening Reception from 6-8pm | Celebrate our next art show, featuring Ghost Melon Artists Collective. Free and open to the public.

May 16th: Collect-A-Mart from 2-7pm | Join us for a handmade and hand crafted collectibles market for the people by the people. Tickets available here, follow them on Instagram for updates.

May 17th: Buddhism Service from 11:15am-1:30pm | Nichiren Shu Sangha of Chicago will host their monthly service with Reverend Igarashi. Free and open to the public, donations welcome.

May 17th: Flow Workshop from 1:30-3:30pm | Join Flow Collective Chicago for another exciting workshop! Follow them on Instagram for updates.

May 23rd: Free Yoga Class from 10:30-11:30am | Join Suni for a celebration of spring with playful, exploratory movements, utilizing breath and mindfulness. Their teaching is trauma informed and affirming of Queer and neurodivergent individuals. Register here.

May 25th: We will be open for studio rentals on Memorial Day from 9:15am-6:30pm. Book studio time here.

May 26th: Shodaigyo Meditation from 7-8:15pm | Join Nichiren Shu Sangha of Chicago for their monthly meditation session. Free and open to the public, donations welcome.

May 27th: AAPI Heritage Month Event from 5-8pm | North River Commission and Albany Park Chamber of Commerce are organizing a networking event to celebrate and support the local Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Free and open to the public. More details coming soon.

There will be Free Community Zumba with Tapestry360 Health from 10:15-11:30am on 5/2, 5/9, and 5/16. On 5/23 and 5/30, Tapestry360 will lead a Stretching/Core Strength class in one of our dance studios (space is limited).

We are open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm + by appointment.
