A warm hug

For every event that we host, no matter how big or small, we strive to offer our clients the care and support of a warm hug. We take pride in all of the programming that happens here and we recognize the huge effort that our clients make turning these events into reality. As your collaborator, our goal is always to ease the burden of the event planning process by offering guidance and reliable customer service along the way.

This upcoming month of June is a perfect example of the wide range of events that are possible here. We’re gearing up for three fundraisers, a mutual aid fair, a new weekly yoga class, a women’s networking event, and even a wedding! Keep reading to learn more about the events that are open to the public along with a special promotion we’re running to help folks (including you!) make their programming dreams come true this summer.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Filipino School of Chicago

How did you get started and what do you do?

Founded in 2024 by Pinary educators, the Filipino School of Chicago is a home for families who want their children to grow up proud of their heritage. We create the affirming spaces that many of us longed for as kids, where young people can discover their roots and celebrate culture while being their authentic selves.

We deliver cultural education programs, through workshops and community-building initiatives, that bring Filipino hertiage to the center. From Tagalog language and dance classes to storytelling and advocacy, our programs are designed for the whole family, helping youth build confidence, identity, and resilience.

Despite Illinois being home to the 3rd largest Filipino population in the U.S., Filipino American youth face some of the lowest rates of cultural and language retention. Heritage education helps strengthen identity, empathy, and mental health, while providing the sense of connection and belonging that families often miss in today’s busy world.

What has it meant to hold your programming at Movement on Montrose?

Holding Filipino School of Chicago dance classes at Movement on Montrose has provided the most beautiful and safe setting for our cultural dance journey. Our dance teachers are passing on decades of Filipino cultural dance experience to youth, many of whom are learning Filipino dance for the first time. This introduction and connection to a part of our culture and identity is important and fundamental to our school and we all hold a sense of pride and excitement dancing in the Movement on Montrose studios. We’re looking forward to building out our programs to more ages, workshops, and events in the future and hope to continue to build our community partnerships.

SUMMER PROMO

30 for 30

From June 1st through August 31st, we’re offering a special rental rate of $30/hr for up to 30 people in our event space! This offer is perfect for board meetings, band practices, co-working sessions, fitness classes, meditation groups, book clubs, play dates, singing circles, yoga workshops, photoshoots, and more. Here’s what you need to know:

✸ Available only on weekdays between the hours of 9am-3pm
✸ One-off and recurring rentals welcome
✸ Includes access to our projector, sound system, chairs, tables, etc.
✸ All staff, volunteers, etc. must be included in the attendance cap
✸ Not applicable for parties or events

June Edition

June 4th: Fundraiser for Latino Union of Chicago from 6:30-9pm | An evening of food, drinks, music, networking, and collective impact in support of immigrant workers across the city. Tickets available here.

June 7th: Flow Workshop from 1:30-3:30pm | Join Flow Collective Chicago and Big Fine for a 2 hour immersion and exploration of flow. What comes before the flow props? How do you express emotion and storytelling through your body? Limited capacity, tickets available here.

June 10th: New weekly yoga class at 6:30pm | Join Katrina from Fuel Yoga every Wednesday evening for self-discovery through mindful movement, breathwork and meditation. Introductory rate of $20 per class. Register here.

June 12th: Fundraiser for Illinois Single Payer Coalition from 6-8pm | Let’s get together to stand for Medicare for All! Join Illinois Single Payer Coalition for food, drinks, music, and the Funny You Should Care improv comedy troupe for more laughs in solidarity. Tickets available here.

June 14th: Mutual Aid Fair from 11am-3pm | Women Unite! and Chicago United Solidarity Project are coming back for another iteration of their Mutual Aid Fair. Free and open to the public. More info here.

June 21st: Buddhism Service from 11:15am-1:30pm | Nichiren Shu Sangha of Chicago will host their monthly service with Reverend Igarashi. Free and open to the public, donations welcome.

June 25th: Illinois Families for Public Schools Fundraiser | An “old-school” celebration of our 10 years in the fight for public schools and a fundraiser to keep us moving into our next decade. Tickets available here.

June 26th: Last day to see our current art exhibition with Ghost Melon Artist Collective. To schedule a viewing appointment, please contact us!

June 27th: The Power of a Brave Heart / El Poder de un Corazón Valiente at 3:30pm | Led by Mariuxi Barrera, this gathering is a place where you can showcase your venture or business, connect with other women, and strengthen your vision. Call Mariuxi at 773-712-9839 to register. This event is fully in Spanish.

June 30th: Shodaigyo Meditation from 7-8:15pm | Join Nichiren Shu Buddhist Sangha of Chicago for their monthly Shodaigyo Meditation session. Free and open to the public, donations welcome.

There will be Free Community Zumba with Tapestry360 Health from 10:15-11:30am on 6/6, 6/13, 6/20, and 6/27.
